Mark 3:7-21 New International Version (NIV) Crowds Follow Jesus 7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed. 8 When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon. 9 Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. 10 For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him. 11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him. Jesus Appoints the Twelve 13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve[a] that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons. 16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), 17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. Jesus Accused by His Family and by Teachers of the Law 20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his family[b] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.” ***************************************************************************************************************** From Nazareth to Capernaum Nazareth can be compared to Huntingdon and Capernaum to Port Lewis. There were discussions on the trip to Capernaum :
Who is going to be the greatest ? Who is Jesus's favorite? till they reach the sea. There were food counters were they all sat down and Jesus asked : What were you guys talking about? They answered : We were behaving improperly. What were you talking, arguing about on the road :"Who is most important?" You want to know who is the Greatest? First: the children Second : receive the prophets- the women of the house because there are the one who take care of the guest and see that they are well treated. Third : Those who understand people who see things differently Fourth : Those who are able to give a cup of cold water to people who are thirsty put of kindness, generosity. The handshake is thought by some to have originated as a gesture of peace by demonstrating that the hand holds no weapon. 3 things happened when you give a cup of water to someone who is thirsty :
i.e. Robert Frost ' poem The way a crow Shook down on me The dust of snow From a hemlock tree Has given my heart A change of mood And saved some part Of a day I had rued. 100 years later, we are still reading about that crow... 2. Multiplier effect of the cup of cold water -to an act of compassion chain of kindness... i.e. the fellow who at the Golden Gate Bridge paid for the person waiting behind him...the end of the chain was the 6th car.... Random acts of kindness... 3. Initiates a Karma with eternal after effects. -Total tally of good Karma and bad influences we create through life Balance along the line. Old United Church hand book: my mother an old fashion methodist in 1935 voted in 1935 against but lost. The congregation lost and became United Church. So I was raised up in the United Church.
